Welcome to my Music Education portfolio!

This section of my website is designed as a "Music Handbook" project for a graduate level class at George Mason University where I am currently enrolled in a music education licensing program.

This page contains  elements of a Music Handbook created for a fictions Middle School Chorus Classroom.

Program Philosophy
This class gives students a chance to explore vocal music while developing musicianship and learning the fundamentals of music. Students will learn how to read music, match pitch and sing using their head voice, sing in unison, two-part, and three-part harmony. Students are required to perform in all concerts.
Ensemble Goals
Our program follows the FCPS guidelines for music education and ensemble development.
  • WE PERFORM: developing musicianship through singing, playing instruments, and moving to music
  • WE CREATE: using the notational tools of music to express ideas, thoughts, and feelings; includes individual approaches to improvisation
  • WE INVESTIGATE: utilizing the study of music theory for music reading; analyzing the manner through which music is organized; making informed judgments about music and arts
  • WE CONNECT: awareness of the commonality between music and other disciplines
Music study is essential to the education process because it develops:
  • Intellectual skills required to comprehend the language of music
  • Interpersonal skills through participation in general music, vocal, and instrumental ensembles
  • A broader understanding of history
  • An understanding of the role of music in other cultures
  • Performance skills commensurate with individual ability and interest
